Creating groups of network paths enables you to operate on a set of related paths rather than on individual paths, making these operations easier and more efficient. They also enable you to organize network paths in ways that are of value to you. For example, grouping paths by geographical region and creating reports based on those regions.

There are two main types of groups you can create: network path groups and saved lists.

  • Network path groups - provide a very basic grouping - essentially, providing a group label for a given network path. Each network path can belong to only one network path group.
  • Saved lists - provide more advanced grouping capabilities. One key difference is that a network path can belong to more than one saved list. This provides flexibility when grouping paths that have multiple attributes in common.

Network path groups

A network path group is a simple way to group a set of network paths. Each network path can belong to only one network path group.

Create a group

There are three ways to create a network path group:

  • While creating a path:
    1. Navigate to Delivery > Network Path List.
    2. Click + Add Network Path.
    3. In Step 3: Customize Settings, next to the Group field, click Add to a New Group.
    4. Specify the new group name in the Group Name field.
  • While editing a path:
    1. Navigate to Delivery > Network Path List.
    2. For the network path you want to edit, select > Configure.
    3. In Step 2: Customize Settings, next to the Group field, click Add to a New Group.
    4. Specify the new group name in the Group Name field.
  • By creating one directly:
    1. Navigate to > Manage Groups.
    2. Click + Add Group.
    3. In the Name field, enter the network path group name.
    4. Click Submit.
      • The group is created.

Add a path to a group

There are two ways to add a network path to an existing network path group:

    2. Click + Add Network Path.
    3. In Step 3: Customize Settings, in the Group field, select the group you want to add the path to.
  • While editing the path configuration:
    1. Navigate to Delivery > Network Path List.
    2. For the network path you want to edit, select > Configure.
    3. In Step 2: Customize Settings, in the Group field, select the group you want to add the path to.

Edit a group

To edit a network path group configuration:

  1. Navigate to > Manage Groups.
  2. For the network path group you want to edit, select > Edit.
  3. In the Name field, enter the new network path group name.
  4. Click Submit.
    • The group name is changed.

Saved lists

Saved lists are a more advanced way to group network paths than network path groups. One difference is that each network path can belong to one or more saved lists.

There are two types of saved lists: static lists and smart lists.

  • Static lists - contain network paths that you explicitly include. They can only be updated manually.
  • Smart lists - get populated based on path attributes that you select such as group or target type. Smart lists are powerful because you can build notifications and reports from them. When they are generated, those notifications and reports will include any new network paths that meet the smart list criteria.

Create a static saved list

To create a static saved list:

  1. Navigate to > Manage Saved Lists.
  2. Click + Saved List.
  3. Enter the list name.
    • The list is created. The icon to the left of the list name indicates it is a static list
  4. Select All Network Paths or an existing list containing paths you want to include in your static list.
  5. Drag network paths from the right panel to your static list on the left.
  6. Click your static list on the left to see the included network paths.

Create a smart saved list

To create a smart saved list:

  1. Navigate to > Manage Saved Lists.
  2. Click + Smart List.
  3. Enter the list name.
    • The list is created. The icon to the left of the list name indicates it is a smart list
  4. In the Smart List Settings tab in the right panel, select the attributes that network paths in the list have in common.
    • Within an attribute group, use Ctrl or Shift to select multiple attributes.
  5. Click Update.
    • The included network paths are displayed in the Paths tab.

Edit smart saved list settings

To edit smart list settings:

  1. Navigate to > Manage Saved Lists.
  2. Select the smart list you want to modify from the Path Lists pane.
  3. Click the Smart List Settings tab.
  4. Select the attributes that network paths in the list have in common.
    • Within an attribute group, use Ctrl or Shift to select multiple attributes.
  5. Click Update.
    • The included network paths are displayed in the Paths tab.

You can duplicate both types of saved lists (static and smart lists) in the same way.

To duplicate a saved list:

  1. Navigate to > Manage Saved Lists.
  2. Select the saved list you want to duplicate.
  3. Click Duplicate (at the bottom of the Path Lists pane).
