If your network requires Internet traffic to be forwarded by proxy, the monitoring point isn’t able to connect to AppNeta Performance Manager (APM) immediately after you complete USB Configuration because the monitoring point doesn’t yet have the proxy details. You enter these details via web admin. The proxy setting only affects how the monitoring point connects and reports data back to APM. It’s not used for performance monitoring.

Physical monitoring points

Web admin

  1. Log in to web admin.
  2. Navigate to Appliance Configuration > Proxy Configuration and enter the IP address of the web proxy, the port it’s listening on, and user credentials if authentication/authorization is required. APM supports only basic and digest authentication, NTLM and Kerberos are not supported.
  3. Save your changes.
  4. Wait for the sequencer process to restart.
  5. Go to web admin home page and verify that the device connected to APM.

Admin UI

  1. Log in to web admin.
  2. Click ‘Appliance Settings’.
  3. Click ‘proxy’, and enter the IP address of the web proxy, the port it’s listening on, and user credentials if authentication/authorization is required. APM supports only basic and digest authentication, NTLM and Kerberos are not supported.
  4. Click ‘submit’.
  5. Wait for the sequencer process to restart.
  6. Go to web admin home page and verify that the device connected to APM.

Software monitoring points

If your network requires Internet traffic to be forwarded by proxy, you will need to provide the monitoring point with proxy details. It therefore will not be able to connect to APM immediately after installation.

If authentication/authorization is required with your proxy: only basic and digest authentication are supported. NTLM and Kerberos are not supported.

Use the following instructions to add your proxy details to the sequencer config. The web proxy config only affects how the monitoring point connects and reports data back to AppNeta and is not used for performance monitoring.

  1. Find seq.config.sample. It’s location will vary based on where you installed, but on Windows and OSX try looking here:
    • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\AppNeta\Sequencer\config
    • Linux: /opt/pathview/config
    • OSX: /Library/PreferencePanes/AppNetaSequencer.prefPane/Contents/Resources/config
  2. Save a copy and rename it seq.config.
  3. Edit the file uncommenting the proxy config lines and filling in your proxy details.

    # Proxy Address: Proxy server address
    # Uncomment the following line to set this parameter.
    # Proxy Address:
    #
    # Proxy Password: Proxy password
    # Uncomment the following line to set this parameter.

    # Proxy Port:

    # Proxy Port: Proxy username
    # Uncomment the following line to set this parameter.
    # Proxy Username:

  4. Save your changes and restart the monitoring point.
    • Windows: From Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools, stop and start the sequencer process.
    • Linux (as root user)
      1. Enter ps -aux to find the PID of netseq-linux.
      2. Kill the sequencer with kill PID.
      3. Restart it with /opt/pathview/netseq-linux -b.
    • OSX: The monitoring point is a system service and can be restarted from the system preferences panel.
