Monitoring Points

The Monitoring Points page provides a view of all Monitoring Points that are visible by you. You can see their status and, depending on your user role, will have various actions available to you. By default, the list of Monitoring Points is filtered by your current organization.

Functionality on this page includes: search, filter, group, sort, specify columns, view status, view details, add a Monitoring Point, and actions that can be taken on individual Monitoring Points.

Monitoring Points can be searched for using a search string. The search looks at content in the Organization, Name, Hardware ID, Hardware Address, and Time Zone fields. Searches can be combined with filters to narrow the search.

To search for Monitoring Points:

  1. Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
  2. In the search field, enter the search string.
    • Monitoring Points matching the search string are listed.
    • Click “=” to invert the search.
    • Click “x” to remove the search string.
    • To refine the search, you can add another search string by repeating these steps.

Filter

A filtering mechanism is available to help narrow down a search. Multiple filters can be combined together and with a search string for even further granularity.

To filter Monitoring Points:

  1. Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
  2. Click the search field.
    • The filters appear.
  3. Select a filter.
    • Objects matching the filter type are listed.
  4. Select one or more of the filter objects and click Apply.
    • Monitoring Points matching the selected objects are listed.
    • Click “=” to invert the filter.
    • Click “x” to remove the filter.
    • To refine what you are filtering, you can add another filter by repeating these steps.

Alternatively, click a quick filter to select all Monitoring Points with a given status.

Group

There are a number of ways to group Monitoring Points on the Monitoring Points page.

To group Monitoring Points:

  1. Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
  2. In the Group By dropdown, select the parameter you want to use to group the Monitoring Points in the list, or select None to list without grouping.
    • The Monitoring Points are grouped according to the grouping parameter specified.

Sort

No matter how they are grouped, lists of Monitoring Points can be sorted based on data in any of the columns in the list.

To sort a list of Monitoring Points:

  1. Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
  2. If Monitoring Points are grouped, expand the group you are interested in so that you can see the Monitoring Points in the group.
  3. Click the heading of the column you want to sort by.
    • The Monitoring Points are sorted by the column you selected.
  4. Click the heading again to reverse the sort order.

Specify columns

You can specify up to 15 columns of Monitoring Point information. Each column can be used to sort the Monitoring Point list.

To specify the columns of Monitoring Point information:

  1. Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
  2. Click Columns.
  3. Select the columns you want to display.
  4. Click away from the list of columns.
    • The selected columns are displayed.

View status

To view a Monitoring Point’s status in APM:

  • Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
    • The Monitoring Point status is indicated by the icon in the left column.
Icon Status Description
Green circle with white check mark OK The Monitoring Point is connected to APM.
Black circle with white minus sign Connection Lost The Monitoring Point is not connected to APM. Troubleshoot the issue.

Additional statuses can be found in the Additional Status columns. Hover over the icons for details and/or actions to take.

Icon Status Description
Shared The Monitoring Point is shared between organizations.
Unlicensed The Monitoring Point is unlicensed.
Monitoring Point Error There is a Monitoring Point error.
Upgrade Available There is a software upgrade available for the Monitoring Point.

View details

To view detailed Monitoring Point information:

  1. Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
  2. Click the Monitoring Point you are interested in.
    • The Monitoring Point details appear in a pane on the right.

Add

Monitoring Points are typically added as part of of the setup procedure found in Getting Started.

To add a Monitoring Point:

  1. Within APM, navigate to > Manage Monitoring Points.
  2. Click Add Monitoring Points.
  3. Follow the instructions for the Monitoring Point model you want to add.
